\ \ [OE] Sundry goes back to an Old English syndrigapart, separate’. This, like sunder [OE], is descended ultimately from an Indo-European base *su-, denoting ‘separation’, which also produced Latin sinewithout’, Welsh hannerhalf’, and German sondernbut’.
