future

future
\ \ [14] Future comes via Old French future from Latin futūrusgoing to be, about to be’, which was used as the future participle of essebe’. It was a descendant of the Indo-European base *bheu- or *bhu-, which originally denoted ‘grow’, and also produced English be, the German present first and second person singular forms bin and bist, and the Latin perfect tense of esse (fuīI was’, etc).
